NEWS UPDATE: In the 2005 All Japan Koi Show,  a stunning twelve year old showa bred by Maruyama Koi Farms won the top Grand Champion Award. Congratulations to last year's visitor/guest breeder -  Futoshi Maruyama.

At our 2006 Spring fish sale – Megumi Yoshida will be returning with another very special guest, Mr. Yohei Nagasaki, a koi breeder from Toyoto City, Japan. Yohei No Koi Farms is already famous for breeding top quality 3rd and 4th generation hybrid (magoi crossed) Kohaku & Sanke. Mr. Nagasaki's famous hybrid koi are highly sought after and have won top awards in shows all over Japan. At the most recent recent All Japan Show in January 2005 a Yohei Sanke won the Kukogyo Award (Best in Size) for a 70 bu four year old hybrid male sanke

 

 

Mr Nagasaki will be selecting and reserving about one hundred of his best one year old jumbo baby hybrid sankes and kohakus to bring to Texas, April 1-2, 2006.

This is a very unique special opportunity to select the koi of your dreams directly from their Japanese koi breeder. More important this is a opportunity to talk about potential koi development with the person that knows best what to expect – the breeder himself.

Mr. Nagasaki & Mr. Yoshida will be giving koi seminars both days along with other speakers covering the gamut of selecting and growing koi.  In addition Mr. Yoshida will be bringing hundreds of additional show and pond quality koi of all types and varieties. From many of Japan’s top breeders. Prices for pond quality baby koi start at $20 and show quality koi begin at $100 for 1 year old koi. The October 2004 earthquakes in the Niigata area (heart of koi breeding area) were devastating to the local residents. Mr. Yoshida has helped with the rescue of thousands of koi from the area.  You can help the koi breeders in the area by buying koi rescued from Niigata area. There will be a special selection of Niigata tosai koi available. Also there will be a tank of extra special high quality jumbo Maruyama kohaku tosai with prices from $200 to $300. 

As usual there will be a koi judging contest, the annual koi growing contest and we will raffle two high quality koi donated by Mr. Nagasaki and Mr. Yoshida

Top grade Yohei Tosai Hybrid Kohaku. Breeder says 99% sure female. Valued at $3,000. measured 29cm(11.4in) Feb. 17th. This koi will be raffled Saturday afternoon. Winner must be present to win.

 

To be raffled on Sunday afternoon. Donated by Mr. Yoshida. 46 cm (18in.) Two year old Female Gin Rin Kujaku bred by Yasuji Hiroi of Isawa. Valued at $1,500.

LONG FIN KOI: Also featuring local long fin koi breeder Vance Schultze selling some of his best baby and older long fin koi. Vance breeds longfins some of the finest longfins found in the U.S. from the original Japanese breeder brood stock of A. Suda to produce Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Utsuri, Kujaku, Ogon, Hawiwaki, Asagi, Hajiro's and a few others. Vance will most likely be bringing mostly baby long fins costing about $35. He is also planning to bring some larger and better show quality long fins starting at about $100 and higher. Vance will also be donating $50 worth of long fin koi in both Saturday & Sunday raffles. Must be present to win fish raffles.

GOLDFISH: Also Mike Christenson who owns a fish farm in Louisiana will be selling a mixture of goldfish that he breds and imports.  All imports will be quarantined for at least 6 weeks and probably for longer than that.  A brief list of some of the varieties that will likely be available are: Orandas; purple, blue, red, red caps, maybe some calico, and possibly a few panda Ranchus; at least a few calico, Lionheads, Possibly some assorted bubble eyes or dragon eyes and Pearlscales. The majority of the fish will be babies in the 2-3" range and will likely be priced at $7.50 each or 4 for $25.  He will also have a few larger fish at 4-5" or so that will probably be in the $15-30 range. Mike will also be donating $50 worth of gold fish in both Saturday & Sunday raffles. Must be present to win fish raffles.

I would strongly suggest if you are thinking of coming to the sale that you go ahead and make a motel reservation which could always be cancelled. San Antonio motel rooms are always pretty hard to come by and several other nearby motels were already full.
