Yoshida Growing Contest rules

In the hope of getting more participants and also in the interest of maintaining proper quarantine protocols we are changing the way we will be conducting the judging of the annual Yoshida growing contests - beginning this year. Koi that were bought at last years sale for $100 and entered in this years contest were registered, measured, and photographed. DO NOT return last years koi to this years event. From now on this will be a photo contest. There will not be any facilities available for holding last years koi at the site. Just bring a photo of each growing contest koi you wish to enter.

Anyone wishing to have their growing contest koi from last year participate must take a standard size photo (3-1/2 X 5-1/2 or 4 X 6). Since this is to be a photo contest the of the photo is very important. Use Koi magazine photos as an example. Photo should be of the entire koi from the top and angled about 45 degrees from the front. Digital photos are permitted but cannot be altered for color or "photoshopped" to remove flaws or alter the fish shape or pattern, etc. You are permitted to  rotate, crop and brighten or darken only.

Measure your koi as carefully as you can in inches and fractions of an inch. Write your name and the current length of the koi on the back of the photo and bring to the sale to be judged. Koi must still be alive and in your procession. No entrants will be accepted via the mail. You must be present to have your growing contest photos judged. Mr. Yoshida and Mr. Nagasaki will compare last years photos to this years photos and will present the following awards. (Top Awards are very nice Japanese kimonos, needlepoint, ceramics, etc.
